HOW WHOLE BODY THERAPY WORKS
The movement of the whole body vibration
plate (WBV) with a small amplitude of 2 to 4 mm simulates the body's natural
'stretch reflex' (Tonic Vibration Reflex). This is similar to the knee
jerk reaction that occurs when the knee is tapped by a reflex hammer in
a doctor¹s office. Without thinking about it, your body responds with
a strong involuntary muscle contraction, leading to your leg 'kicking out'.
These strong muscle contractions can be repeated at a rapid rate. At a
frequency of 20 to 50 times a second, it can produce up to 3,000 contractions
in 1 minute.
Due to its involuntary effect on muscle
contraction, nearly 100% of the muscle fibers are recruited. Compare this
to conventional training where there is only on average 40% muscle recruitment.
This benefits the rehabilitation patient looking to add stability and strength
to all muscles around their joints.
Instead of working against you and providing
resistance, the WBV works with you to relax and calm you, and to melt away
those extra pounds.
The motion of the WBV moves your body in
a natural, smooth motion. As the plate moves, your entire body, from arms
and legs, to back and abs, gets a complete workout that challenges and stimulates
your muscles.
JUST 10 MINUTES ON THE WBV IS EQUIVALENT
TO ONE HOUR OF PHYSICAL TRAINING.
You start by placing your feet on either
side of the rotation centre of the vibration platform. Each time the right
leg is accelerated upward (push-phase), the left leg is accelerated downward
(slack-phase). At the same time, the right leg is subjected to flexion,
while the left leg undergoes extension. As a consequence, the pelvis is
rotated upward on the right side, and downward on the left, which elicits
flexion in the vertebral column.
During the passive extension of the leg,
the flexor muscles are activated, and during flexion, the extensors are
activated. Likewise, repetitive rotation of the pelvis elicits alternating
activation of the hip adductors and abductors of the iliopsoas muscles
and the erector spinae muscles. There are hardly any muscles that are not
activated during vibration exercise.
Whole-body vibration therapy is used in
the medical field for the treatment and prevention of a variety of illnesses,
injuries, and adverse health conditions. Osteoporosis: Millions of Americans,
especially women, are at risk of developing this disease, which results
from the decalcification of the bones due to hormonal imbalances. The bones
become fragile with a tendency to break easily. Vibration Therapy increases
bone density, usually reversing the effects of osteoporosis.
Vibration exercise has allowed people with
debilitating conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, multiple sclerosis,
Parkinson¹s Disease, and stroke victims to yield the benefit of exercise
while working within their personal limitations.
WBV can be a complete workout or it can
be used in a more passive way.
You can make it a complete workout by standing
in one of the difficult positions, just after 1 minute he/she would be
panting and perspire as if having exercised rigorously. There are also
reports that the effects of the vibration exercise reduce the weight-lift
training by 85%

Here is how the and Whole Body Vibration
can help you:
Accelerates Weight Loss - WBV stimulates
all cells in the body to function at a higher rate, which in turn increases
The metabolism causing more fuel to be burnt which helps to accelerate
weight loss.
Reduces Cellulite - WBV causes increased
local circulation to targeted areas, in turn giving the visible cellulite
area a "smoother" look.
Reduces Varicose Veins - WBV causes increased
lymph drainage, which lowers the pressure in varicose veins so the valves
of the veins can close off.
Increases Energy - WBV stimulates all cells
in the body, increases blood flow, and oxygen intake and stimulates metabolism
to help flushes out toxins.
Increases Bone Density - There are two
types of bone cells. Ostioblast (bone maker) and Ostioclast (bone shaper)
Bone loss is due to more Ostioclast
than Ostioblast cells. WBV stimulates
more weight bearing exercise and gravity stimulates ostioblast cells.
Improves Muscle Strength - WBV improves
muscle strength the same way as regular exercise does. Vibrations lengthen
and shorten the fibers how ever many
times per second that you have the frequency
set at, which is more efficient and increases strength.
Enhances Wellness - WBV increases blood
flow, lymph drainage, oxygenation of cells, the release of endorphins,
and detoxification of the body.
Enhances Detoxification - WBV works from
the inside out. Waste products are expelled at a cellular, lymphatic and
excretion level.
Improves Circulation - WBV improves circulation
through increased blood flow by stimulating the exercise heart rate.
Improves Relaxation - WBV increases circulation,
blood flow and oxygen intake. WBV also reduces cortisol (the stress hormone)
and creates and releases endorphins. It also detoxifies the system, enhancing
relaxation.
Increases Libido - WBV increase circulation
and blood flow and increases HGH and Testosterone levels. On another level
WBV also helps to release endorphins, detoxify the system and reduce cortisol.
Enhances Rehabilitation - WBV assists by
allowing new tissues to build and grow, increases circulation, allows the
oxygenation of cells, increases metabolism and flushes the toxins out of
the body at a higher and faster rate.
Increases Flexibility - The direct effect
of WBV stimulates blood flow to ligaments and tendons and enhances the
stretch reflex.
Cardio Effects - Since the muscles are
working at almost100% through the use of WBV, they are burning more glucose
and oxygen, therefore pushing the heart to pump harder and get more oxygen
to the muscles.
FIRBOMYALGIA
The disease of fibromyalgia, also referred
to as fibromyositis and fibrositis, has four commonly recognized symptoms:
chronic and incapacitating fatigue, muscle pain, severe depression, and
serious sleep disorder. Although these complaints are common, except for
muscle pain, they are not exclusive thus making diagnosis difficult. There
is a long history of fibromyalgia symptoms being dismissed as psychosomatic
or even misdiagnosed often resulting in inappropriate and dangerous misuse
of prescription drugs. The American College of Rheumatology estimates that
at least six million people in the United States suffer from fibromyalgia.
Vibration therapy is rapidly becoming a
widely recognized, holistic cure for both muscle pain and lack of energy.
It is known to increase muscle strength, flexibility, range of motion,
bone density, blood circulation and neuromuscular stimulation. Because
muscle is built, excess fat is reduced.
The product, a vibrating plate, sends healing
vibrations throughout your body. There is a wide selection of them and
their prices vary quite a bit. From my experience with these machines,
the difference is in the strength of the vibrations, the distance the vibrations
extend upward when stood on (expect the cheaper versions to go up to your
knees only), the quality of the workmanship, the size of the platform,
and the weight they will support. Believe me, "you get what you pay for."
I purchased a less expensive one to start
working with while I save up for a good quality model. Because of its limitations,
I spend about an hour and a half working on it instead of the fifteen or
twenty minutes it should take. I have to stand, sit, and lay in various
positions to get the full body workout. I do not sell the one I have purchased
because I'm not happy with it. Here is what I have found: Power Vibe Vibrational
Massage, Whole Body Vibration (WBV), Machine, Power Vibe Pro Whole Body
Vibration Unit.
Jacob Teitelbaum,
M.D., in his book " From Fatigued to Fantastic " claims a cure
for fibromyalgia is seven to nine hours of truly deep healthy sleep, "the
foundation of getting well." Along with pharmaceutical remedies, he suggests
some natural help for sleep problems some of which are: losing weight if
overweight, avoiding alcohol and caffeine, and supplementing with valerian,
lemon balm, kava kava, passionflower, and melatonin.
He suggests ginger root for pain
-- 1,000 milligrams one to four times a day. Teitelbaum says ginger also
helps with nausea and dizziness which are sometimes associated with fibromyalgia.
Also for pain, he says
capsaicin cream which comes from hot peppers
is good. He points out that supplementing with the right kind of essential
fatty acids has an "anti-inflammatory effect and can be beneficial for
pain." And also recommended is magnesium. "If your magnesium level
is low, your muscles will stay in spasm and your fibromyalgia will not
resolve."
Lavender oil is another widely accepted
remedy for sleep problems. I have found the secret is to use the natural
oil not a synthetic product and to use enough of it. Sprinkle it on your
pillow or a paper towel kept close to your nose. It might take about a
half hour of thinking "this is not working" before you doze off. It works
for me.
Hulda Regehr Clark,
Ph.D.,N.D., talks about the root cause of disease as originating
in the intestinal tract and being parasites and/or pollutants in her book,
" The Cure for All Diseases " She recommends quite simply:
1) the problems caused by parasites
can be cured electronically and with herbal treatments;
2) the problems caused by pollutants
can be avoided.
She claims a certain type of tiny parasite
which plays host to bacteria sometimes migrate into the muscles and cause
such things as the pain associated with fibromyalgia. Amazingly, to kill
parasites she has invented an electronic machine she calls the "zapper".
Bruce Fife, C.N.,
N.D., claims that eating coconut oil will cure one of
the main symptoms of fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue in his book " The Coconut
Oil Miracle " He states coconut oil kills many different parasites. Fife
states that even though coconut oil contains saturated fat it is healthy.
He points out that if it was not healthy, those native people of the South
Pacific Islands, who do not eat a conventional modern diet but who still
live on a diet primarily made up of coconuts, would not be as unusually
healthy as they are.
Cherie Calbom
in her book " The Coconut Diet " says that a low carbohydrate diet supplemented
with coconut oil will cure fibromyalgia and an under-active thyroid.
I bet a lot of you, like myself, are thinking
that if coconut oil is so good why not just eat the coconuts from which
the oil is made. Since doing all this research, I have started to eat the
young, white coconuts. They have been cut so that they have rounded sides,
a flat top, and a pointed bottom. There is a white very thick husk growing
all over. It takes some determination, but they are a lot easier to crack
than the older brown ones.
First for stability, I place the coconut
pointed side down into my kitchen sink drain. With a sharp knife, I cut
the flat top with a circular motion to remove some husk as I look for the
small hole they all have. Once the hole is found, the coconut water can
be drained. I then cut out enough husk to form about a two-and-a-half inch
rounded area including the natural hole. I then place the coconut in my
left hand (I'm right handed) with the hole facing upward. With a hammer
I bang on the hole until I've enlarged it enough to dig out the "meat"
with a small spoon. Its texture ranges from almost a custard (which is
very easy to scrape out) to chewey (which is difficult to remove.
I sometimes make cuts in the meat with
a knife to facilitate removal. It tastes good. I haven't been able to find
an organic source. One time the coconut water was shaded pink, the hole
was unusually large and the "meat" was colored a light shade of brown.
I presume this is what happens when the coconut goes "bad." I drank the
water anyway and did not have any bad reaction. I always sip the water
slowly because it is, after all, a fruit juice and so the sugar content
might get into our bloodstream rather fast otherwise.
Clair Davies,
NCTMB, and Amber Davies, NCTMB,
in their book " The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook " say that the pain
of fibromyalgia originates as myofascial trigger points. Clair Davies claims
these points can be found and then self massaged to eliminate the pain.
A trigger point is explained as a "knot: a wad of muscle fibers staying
in a hard contraction, never relaxing....could be actively painful or it
could manifest no pain at all unless touched. More often, though, it would
sneakily send its pain somewhere else." He goes on to say that "painkillers
actually perpetuate pain" because it is being masked instead of addressed.
As just one example, even the pain of carpal tunnel can be eliminated by
massaging trigger points in the forearms.
